Key issues
Environment
We are fortunate to have great natural assets in Kenmore. We are on the lake and have many streams, wetlands and forests. Protecting these is important for the quality of life of those living here, for habitat for salmon and other wildlife, and for combating climate change. Environment and climate are some of my top priorities, as is public access to the outdoors and parks.
Housing
Affordable housing is difficult to find in Kenmore. We need to work on ways to provide more housing, including various forms of affordable housing, while balancing density and construction impacts with protecting neighborhoods and the environment. The Kenmore Planning Commission and City Council are currently studying and implementing some new policies and codes designed to create more housing, which I support.
Public safety and community health
Public safety is a core service and also a priority of mine. We have excellent coverage in our community from the Shoreline Regional Fire Authority for fire and emergency medical services, and with our contract with King County for police services. Shoreline Fire also provides a Mobile Integrated Health team offering social work and connection to services. Kenmore also benefits from partnering in the Regional Crisis Response Agency, whose team members often respond with police for mental health and other crisis services.
Economic growth and sustainability of services
The City of Kenmore provides a lot of services that contribute to our safety, health, and quality of life. In order to keep providing those services, we need to look at ways to bring in revenue, such as encouraging businesses to locate in Kenmore. We also need to look at the expense side and make sure we keep things in balance so we can provide services into the future.
Pro-labor
As a retired member of IAFF Local 1760 Shoreline Firefighters, I understand that unions are important and I support workers’ right to organize. Many of the benefits that employees, union and non-union, expect today such as sick leave and vacation are due to the union movement.
